Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our Terms of Business (1 Feb 2026)
  • The RHA Conditions of Carriage 2026

Yes.

From 1 September 2024, our fuel surcharge is adjusted weekly using the UK Government Weekly Road Fuel Price Index.

How it works:

  • Our base rate assumes fuel at £1.20 per litre
  • We calculate the percentage difference between £1.20 and the current weekly government figure
  • We apply 33% of that difference as the fuel surcharge

Example:

If fuel is £1.43 per litre:

  • That is 19.5% above the £1.20 base
  • 33% of 19.5% = 6.5% surcharge
  • 6.5% is added to the transport rate at invoice

Fuel represents up to 33% of our operating costs and we consume over 14,000 litres per week.

We do not speculate on fuel.

We apply a transparent formula.

Major accounts may have individually agreed structures.

Because efficiency benefits both sides. We are more productive if we keep the wheels turning this helps us keep our rates competitive and add to your efficiency.

The traditional industry allowance is often 2 hours.

That creates:

  • Dock congestion
  • Poor planning discipline
  • Hauliers building waiting time into base rates
  • Higher overall transport costs

We operate on 60 minutes free at collection and delivery  .

Here’s why:

  • A truck that turns in 60 minutes can complete more work in a day
  • More productivity means we don’t have to inflate base rates
  • Efficient sites are rewarded with competitive pricing
  • Inefficient sites only pay when delay actually occurs

We don’t apply this to make more money we do this so we can charge less. Everyone wins.

Waiting beyond 60 minutes is charged at £55 per hour (or part thereof)  .

Unlike our competitors We don’t price for delay, We charge for it, only when it happens.

Across customers implementing 60-minute load/unload standards:

  • Average dwell time reduction:35–50%
  • Haulage spend reduction:5–10%
  • OTIF improvement:5–10%
  • Dock productivity uplift:10–20%

If your site runs well, you won’t see waiting charges.

If it doesn’t, the cost sits where the delay sits.

If delivery fails due to:

  • Site refusal
  • No access
  • Documentation issues
  • Customer instruction

The quoted rate plus waiting time applies.

Storage may also apply if goods are held.

  • 30 days from invoice date
  • Queries must be raised within 7 days
  • Queries do not suspend payment unless agreed in writing

Late payment charges apply under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.

  • Physical loss/damage: notify within 7 days
  • Other claims: within 28 days
  • Legal proceedings: within 1 year of transit commencing
